Checklist
Set Yourself up for success !
Congratulations on taking the time to clear out your clutter! It’s going to be a fun day and together we’ll all celebrate your accomplishments at the end of the day.
We want your day to be a huge success, so we’ve listed below some recommended items to prepare ahead of time and to have ready for your Clear Out Your Clutter™. Half of any job is having the right tools at your fingertips when you need them. If there is something else you feel you need, then add it to your checklist!
Pre-event Preparation
- Decide what area(s) you want to de-clutter on the day of the event
- What do you want to accomplish by the end of the Clear Out Your Clutter™?
- Print signs for each staging area and post in the area or on boxes/bins
- Pre-printed labels – available for download in your Members Site. You may want to pre-print labels so you can label garbage bags and/or boxes to identify where the bag or box is going to (e.g. toss, recycle, donate, etc.). For a large project, I recommend pre-printing labels for different charities in your area as they all accept different types of items (e.g. SPCA, Big Brothers, Salvation Army, etc.)
Have lots of strong garbage bags on hand - Boxes – depending on the area you are clearing out, you may want some moving boxes for large items to donate. Also, banker boxes are very handy if you have a lot of papers to shred or magazines and books to recycle.
- Yellow Avery Labels – Avery #8160, 30 labels per sheet (2 5/8” x 1”). Neon colors stand out when labeling boxes and bags
- Clear packing tape
- Black felt – to mark boxes or write on labels
- Utility knife – be careful when you use this, especially if kids are close by. Always make sure the blade is retracted and not exposed.
- Scissors
- Notebook and pen:
- To help keep you focused, on-track and the momentum going during this event, use your notebook to write down all reminders that come to mind
- You’ll probably have lots of ideas, questions for Sherry, errands to do, reminders of things to do later on and things you forgot to take care
- Writing them in your notebook is a safe place and clears your mind to focus on clearing out the clutter during the event
- You’ll may also gain insights during this process and you’ll want to write them down at the end of the day
- Get others involved – days before the event, talk to family, friends or staff and let them know what area(s) you are clearing out the clutter and what the outcome is for the day
- Snacks, water/tea - stay hydrated and eat healthy protein snacks during the day
- Prepare an easy lunch the day before
- Music – select some upbeat, inspiring music to play during the day. TV is too distracting
- Timer/clock – this is a great tool to help you stay focused during the day
- Get a good sleep the night before!
